Turkish basketball team Pinar-Karsiyaka was attacked by Greek Cypriot hooligans at FIBA Euro Challenge Cup in Greek Cypriot side of Lefkosa.

The incident took place when Turkish team was playing under Group C against Greek Cypriot team Apoel. Reacting on this incident North Cypriot Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk said, the unpleasant incident was "a manifestation of recently increasing racist acts in southern Cyprus".

In a written statement Kucuk said he strongly condemned the Greek Cypriot attack on the basket ball team of north Cyprus and this type of behavior is "a reflection of the negative feelings that Greek Cypriots have towards the Turkish people."

Similarly, TRNC's Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Nazim Cavusoglu in a written statement said that the behavior of the Greek Cypriots was a blow to the peace and negotiations process in the island.
