1st youth Olympic Games are taking place in Singapore from 14th August to 26th August and nine Cypriot athletes will represent Cyprus.

Ouranios Ioannides, the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, addressing the press conference said that that “the goal of the games is to provide incentives for young people to engage in sports…”

In Singapore 3,600 players aging 14-18 will participate from the different countries and take part in 26 sports. Cultural and education programmes are also the inevitable part of Youth Olympic Games. Young athletes will get a golden opportunity to meet and interact with the Olympic medal winners and will explore the ‘Island Adventure’ an activity outside the Youth Olympic Village. In the evening festivals the athletes will enjoy music performances, dances, acts and artwork.

The nine Cypriot athletes will participate in swimming, cycling, gymnastics and athletics. In statements, they said they will do their best during the events.
