Turkish former national swimmer, Alper Sunacoglu crossed the eastern Mediterranean from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and set a new record.
The swimmer covered the 75-km distance between Turkey's southern coastal town, Anamur and the TRNC's Girne region in 26 hours 15 minutes. Earlier, the record was made by Ersin Aydin, who crossed this distance in 35 hours in 1974.
Alper Sunacoglu has broken the record with almost eight hours. The swimmer said that he had tough nigh time as the waves were up to three meters high. But he is happy that he has broken the record with the desired time period.
