Much awaited Green Tree talk on Cyprus started in afternoon

The most awaited Green Tree meeting between UNSG Ban-ki-Moon, President Demetris Christofiase and Dervis Eroglu began at four in the afternoon. The UNSG organized breakfast for the leaders before the meeting and gave maiden speech.

 

 

A special dinner was organized by UNSG special representative Alexander Downer in honour of Christofiase and his delegates. North Cypriot leaders Devis Eroglu and his delegated reached New York later.

 

Christofiase is likely to note the 'stalling tactics' of the Turkish-Cypriot side and their 'failure to submit proposals on property, territory and settlers'.

 

North Cyprus President Dervis Eroglu is hoping to fix a deadline for the talks while Christofiase is not willing to accept any deadline. Dervis Eroglu even warned that if Green tree talks fail, one should not expect any result in the coming rounds of talks on Cyprus.

UNSG will try to make leaders decision flexible on some of the important matters. The soucers say that there is pressure on Ban-ki-Moon on solving the Cyprus Problem otherwise his name will be the one more in the long list.
