Mehmet Ali Talat spoke about the negotiations in Cyprus

TURKISH Republic of North Cyprus President Mehmet Ali Talat spoke about the negotiations in Cyprus during his recent trip to London.
President Talat, who addressed Chatham House, Royal Institute of International Affairs last Friday, spoke about
his negotiations with the Greek Cypriot leader Christofyas.
In his speech to the members of the Chatham House and the media, President Talat said the negotiations are going well but the time should be used properly because of the presidential election campaign he will be involved in from  the middle of February.
President Talat was also concerned about the short time frame due the upcoming holiday season adding that is why the two leaders from both sides cannot come together.
"After the holiday period we only have one month to come up with solid solutions. Even if I am re-elected as a president, the negotiations will still be postponed for another three months and so there is no time to lose."
The President added that Turkish Cypriots are dissatisfied with the pace of negotiations, and that the two leaders need more support from the guarantors and the United Nations. “We definitely need the support from UN,” he said. “We should act more pragmatically to get over this thinking of mistrust by Turkish Cypriots that Greek Cypriots do not want to share power as seen in the rejection of the Annan Plan referendum. First settlement, then we can look for solutions for building trust. Solution is important and possible and we can be successful but still it is not that easy.”
