What Christofias said about Orams Case

Demetris Christofias has said that the judgment of the British Court of Appeal that a decision by a Cypriot court, in connection with claims relating to Greek Cypriot owned property in Cyprus’ northern Turkish occupied areas, must be executed has both a legal and political importance.

In statements at Larnaca airport on his return from Athens where he paid a working visit, Christofias said that the decision by the Cypriot court must be executed by the Republic of Cyprus, which cannot however exercise its sovereignty in the areas of the island occupied by Turkish troops since 1974.

Christofias said that the decision of the British Court is legally important because this Court based its ruling on the EU laws and regulations and the Council of Europe and European Court for Human Rights Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and it is politically important because it constitutes a message to the side which wants to deny the right to ownership or the use of property.

The President said that the government will look into the decision thoroughly and will use it accordingly.
