The spokesperson of UNSG conveyed his condolence over the death of Rauf Raif Denktas.

UNSG’ message says, “He was a long-serving and historic Turkish Cypriot leader with whom the United Nations had a long relationship in the framework of UN-facilitated talks for the reunification of Cyprus and related to its peacekeeping responsibilities on the island.” He also expressed condolence for the whole Denktas family.

Special advisor of UNSG on Cyprus Alexander Downer and Special Representative of UNSG Lisa M. Buttenheim also expressed their condolence for Denktas family and Turkish Cypriot community.

Christofias also called Dervis Eroglu and conveyed his condolences for Denktash's death.
