Speaking to reporters following his meeting with Downer in Lefkoşa, President Eroğlu said that the negotiations in Cyprus would most likely resume on May 26.
"We have had a good conversation with Downer and talked on various issues. We have told Alexander Downer that we wanted to conclude negotiations in a certain time period and hold a referendum," Eroğlu said.
"Downer shares our ideas and thoughts. The United Nations shares the same notion with Turkish Cypriots that negotiations can not go on forever," Eroğlu noted.
We insist on the resumption of negotiations and continuation of the negotiations and want to end negotiations with an agreement that would be supported by the two communities in Cyprus, Eroğlu said.
During our talks with Downer today, we expressed our thoughts on the isolation of the TRNC, Eroğlu said.
