However, one destination often forgotten about is North Cyprus, which is being suggested as a "sizzling" and beautiful" destination.

Ramadan Ozdemir, the managing director of Direct Traveller, said: "North Cyprus is growing in popularity as a destination with savvy UK holidaymakers.

"We have seen an increase in sales of over 35 per cent overall with winter months reaching 100 per cent increase from last year."

Mr Ozdemir added that many were now heading to the destination because of the favourable exchange rate with the Turkish lira and its short distance of travel.

"North Cyprus … is ideal of travellers looking for an affordable holiday," he concluded.

The north part of the Mediterranean island offers plenty for holidaymakers to see and do, ranging from St Hilarion Castle, the Golden Sands Beach or the "tranquil" Bellapis Abbey.
