Greek, Turkish Cypriots launch crime info exchange

A common information center on the separated island is set up by the Greek and Turkish Cypriot to plug the policing gap. It is a great step for Cyprus where police authorities of the Greek side does not communicate and criminals get a chance to escape from the prosecution. Phil Spence, the deputy senior police advisor for the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus said, "There was no connection between law enforcement agencies which is most unusual, and we are remedying that."

The United Nations who is supporting and financing the project has opened an information center in the UN-controlled buffer zone splitting Cyprus.

We hope the teamwork between the sides will turn into the cooperation of the police forces of the constituent states of a federal Cyprus,” said Kudret Özersay, the senior adviser to Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroğlu.
