EU aid for water pipes in North Cyprus

THE EU has provided funding for a 2.6 million Euros water project in North Cyprus.
The European Commission signed a works contract with Ɛzyalcin Construction Ltd in consortium with Adil Construction Ltd. to replace worn out water supply pipes in three towns, Gönyeli, Girne and Lefke.
The water pipes to be replaced are mainly constructed of asbestos cement and are in poor condition leading to possible health hazards as well as up to 50 per cent losses through leaks.
The project will see the replacement of the main pipes over a length of 84 km as well as the replacement of 4,000 house connections. The new installations will all meet EU standards.
The project is scheduled to last 16 months and is funded under the
259 million Euros EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, managed by the European Commission.
