Direct flights issue at High Court this week

THE CASE for allowing direct flights to North Cyprus is being heard at the High Court this week, with Cyprus Turkish Airlines and tour operator CTA Holidays taking on the UK’s Department of Transport.
The issue of direct flights has been ongoing since November 2006, when CTA and CTA Holidays wrote to the Department of Transport claiming it is unfair that flights cannot fly directly to Ercan in North Cyprus.
The Department of Transport rejected the direct flights issue on 20 February 2007 and in March 2007, CTA and CTA Holidays appealed against the decision by the Department.
When they realised the Department of Transport would not change their mind over the issue, the matter became one for the courts, with the date set for a High Court hearing this week.

All though Turkish Cypriot people can't fly Direct to Ercan, YET The Department of Transport allow CTA to fly from Turkey to London. Isn't this a double standards here, they are not recognising the northern cyprus but they will allow flights under the banna of CTA. (CYPRUS TURKISH AIRLINES)

The whole Cyprus issue goes back to the 50;s and 60's when many Greek Cypriots wanted reunification with Greece, with no regard for the Turkish Cypriots. Its about time the Turkish Cypriots were allowed to live a normal existence.

I am truly sick of these Greek Cypriot moaning s everywhere where it says North Cyprus. It has been 35 years, I am sick of seeing claims that there is only one Cyprus and it is the member of EU and all that bullshit. Same old story told by all Greek Cypriots. Do they teach you these phrases at s

giannis, It is tragedy, because of the intransigence of all concerned will never be resolved. Taiwan is also an illegal flight schedule according to China, I have just come back from there. Major airline, no problems.

Im afraid you will have to come to terms with the reality that TRNC does exist, it is not a figmant of your imagination. Ercan will open to direct flights because quite frankly the EU is totally hacked off with the intransigence of the RoC. They conned their way into the EU and end up shouted Oxi wh

How can any airline fly to an illegal air port to an illegal regime kept together by an illegal occupation? This is the 21st century not the middle ages. There is only one Cyprus member of EU,and UN.There are two legal air ports why not fly there?
