Tight checking on Green Line to stop illegal import of potatoes from North Cyprus to Greek Cyprus

The Greek Cyprus is keeping a tight check on the Green Line after incidents of illegal agricultural import from North Cyprus.

The Greek Cypriot Agriculture Minister Sophocles Aletraris reported about three hundred tones potatoes been imported from Green Line. This illegal import might be more through other channels but he was not aware of it.

He further said that this illegal import cannot be considered major as compared to the production of potatoes in North Cyprus region which is is 70 000 to 120 000 tones.

The Greek Cypriot side is now concerned about the use of pesticides in north Cyprus on crops.
