Passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airport affected by four hour work stoppage

The four hour work stoppage of air traffic controller in Cyprus affected five thousand passengers and 38 flights to and from Larnaca and Paphos.

The air traffic controllers were on work stoppage because of government’s austerity measures. The airports remained closed from 1300 to 1700 (local time).

Airport Spokesman Adamos Aspris said flights to and from various destinations including Athens, Moscow, Salonica, Vienna, Tel Aviv, London, Birmingham, Beirut, Amman, Abu Dhabi, Heraklion and Rhodes, were affected by the strike.

Air traffic controllers’ spokesman Giorgos Georgiou said that nothing changed since they declared the strike, He further said that they would wait for an invitation from the Minister of Communications and Works Efthymios Flourentzou to discuss ''the substance of the arguments'' in order to find a satisfactory solution to the deadlock.

The air traffic control staff threatens to have another four hour work stop on 25th January.
