No More Pump Priming to North Cyprus Travel Agent from the Government

Travel agents in North Cyprus are going to have to find a new way to bring tourists into the country as the new UBP government is rumored to be planning to pull its pump priming policy away from the travel agent business.  According to sources in the travel agent industry in North Cyprus, the pump priming practice is no longer effective when it comes to attracting tourists from the United Kingdom to North Cyprus.

Pump priming is an economic policy that helps stimulate recessive economies by increasing government expenditures or reducing taxes.  It is believed to help boost the economic output and is a temporary measure to help the economy spontaneously develop and become sustainable.  With the current global recession affecting everyone in every country, the previous government of North Cyprus put pump priming into effect as a way to bring in tourism dollars.
North Cyprus travel agents were making good money from the pump priming practice.  They have been earning €40 to €50 (forty to fifty Euros) per person that booked a holiday in North Cyprus from the government.  While travel to the country has not decreased thanks to the many resorts and tourist attractions that have been developed in North Cyprus, the government feels that there are better ways of attracting tourists into the country.

One of those ways is to help lower the price of airline tickets to North Cyprus.  The UBP is shifting their pump priming policy to Cyprus Turkish airlines in an effort to help boost ticket sales and get more passengers flying into and out of Larnaca and Paphos International Airports.  By offering the airlines the pump priming Euros that the travel agencies have been receiving all these years, the airlines are able to drop their fare prices, allowing them to offer cheaper tickets and attracting more passengers.
There is still no word as to how long the pump priming will be in effect with the travel agents or with the airlines that take advantage of the program.
