
The Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofiase does not intend to take part in the February 2013 President election. The President election takes place after every five year. The ruling left party proposed the name of Health Minister Stavros Malas for the President election.
The name was chosen by the Party central Commiittee on Wednesday voting. The voting was secret and 70% members voted in favour of Malas, 25% against him and 5% did not vote in favour of against Malas. AKEL spokesperson George Loucaides said that final decision on the name of President Candidate will be taken on July 21.
Three candidates are announced in which main is opposition right wing Democratic Party leader Nicos Anastasiades, former foreign minister George Lillikas and Makaria Andri Stylianou.
